OUR GUESTS

Comfort + Culture

Even when you’re away from home, you want to feel at home. But—you also want to feel transported. To feel like you’re in a new place, not just when you’re exploring. You want to live like a local while still feeling like you’re on vacation.

Every aspect of your stay at the Damayanti has been designed with your needs in mind. Our mission is to provide an intimate setting that’s luxurious yet eco-friendly and facilitate a meaningful cultural experience of Bali and a real look into Balinese life. We serve individuals, families, and group leaders seeking a nourishing setting for their wellness retreats.

 our founder

Hi, I’m Tiza

Born to Javanese parents and raised between New York City and Indonesia, ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to run a hotel. I even played “hotel manager” and kept logs of guests, designed rooms, so the Damayanti is the fulfillment of a long-held dream.

In 2018, I left a successful corporate executive career after 20+ years in New York City, and came to Bali to write a book, get back to my roots, and figure out my next move. I’ve traveled extensively around the world, stayed in hundreds of hotels, and attended dozens of retreats, so I’ve had a dream to own a retreat space to share with others for many years. Little did I know that the writing retreat in Bali would turn into a total transition in my life and career when I stumbled upon this property and knew that it was time to bring my dream to life. I had no plan and no idea what I was doing, but I followed my intuition and took a leap of faith that I could figure it out. Living in Bali has taught me to slow down and stay present to whatever’s unfolding, experiencing the enchantment life holds when you let go of your plans and follow your heart.

My hope for you is that a stay here nourishes your long-held dreams and desires. What might emerge when your body, mind, and spirit relax? How would a direct experience of the Balinese lifestyle, infused with daily reverence and intention, serve as inspiration for infusing more reverence into your life back at home? Shall we find out together?

Newly Renovated with Intention

The hotel underwent a massive renovation and rebranding in the spring of 2019 with a lot of sweat, reverence, and love. Each room is decorated with antique Balinese and Javanese furniture, art, architectural pieces, and traditional textiles and prints, and many of our rooms are in antique Javanese joglo or gladak houses constructed of teak wood. A stay at the Damayanti combines a reverence for history and the sacred land we live on with thoughtful, luxurious touches that modernize a traditional experience.

Sustainability

We provide complimentary all-natural soap, bug repellent, shampoo, and shower gel, and we use only all-natural, non-toxic cleaning products (even our dish soap!). Linens are changed every 3 days to conserve our precious water supply, and we recycle and limit our use of plastics and other single-use products throughout the property. We’ve installed solar lighting in the garden with plans to add more.

We also give back to the local community by offering free yoga classes to our staff and their families, and are working on launching a local clean water initiative as well as more green projects like composting, an organic garden, and a saltwater pool.
